Why are Worn Tires a Problem?
A tire with
worn tread will cause you all sorts of headaches as well as create
incredibly dangerous driving conditions that you may not be able to
recover from. For starters, your tires have to dissipate heat in order
to avoid losing grip on dry roads, and the tread grooves and sipes
provide natural channels for airflow while you drive. When it rains,
those same treads are responsible for flushing water out from under your
tire to allow for improved grip, and with little or no tread you'll
find yourself slipping and sliding on road that are only marginally wet.
A skid such as this is typically difficult to recover from as you won't
have the grip or control needed to change directions once you begin
sliding.
Find the Right Tires
So
which tires are right for your vehicle? That depends on a lot of factors
including your driving style, budget, and the time of year. All season
tires are perfect for winter in Kentucky, where the occasional snowstorm
can create slippery situations but we don't get enough consistent
winter weather to justify outright snow tires. Meanwhile, our summers
are hot and may demand a harder, more durable tire compound such as what
you'll find on summer tires. And of course, cost is always a major
factor, but you'll generally want to spend as much as you can afford to
part with to get the highest quality tires
possible.
